Your justice I kept not hid within my heart;
your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of;
I have made no secret of your kindness and your truth
in the vast assembly.
Psalm 40:11 from Mass for the Solemnity of the Annunciation
Mary was the one whose ears were “open to obedience” as Psalm 40 says earlier, and certainly her words about God’s kindness to her are known to everyone today “in the vast assembly” which is the Church. God is also working daily in our hearts, providing direction and encouragement through the Holy Spirit to each of his baptized children. What God is doing in us can encourage our brothers and sisters in the faith. Speaking about what God is doing in our lives should be a normal part of our Christian walk.
Mary gives us an example about that, too. She did not immediately write down the Magnificat and publish it on the internet, or rush off to sing it in the local synagogue. But she did not keep it all to herself, either. She considered the situation and went and shared what God was doing in her life with a mature and trusted friend, Elizabeth. A friend who was able to confirm part of what Mary had heard and rejoice with her, a friend wise enough to entrust with great news, a friend who had discretion.
May we all find such a friend, whatever our situation! Ask our Lord to point you to such a one.
Jim,
Your friendship ,through this blog, is a prime example of God working in my heart. Thank you,
I got a long ways to go though !!
God bless you, Anon
