Blessed are you who fear the LORD,
who walk in his ways! from Psalm 128:1, for daily Mass, June 25, 2021
Once again, the “fear of the Lord.” It is idiomatic Hebrew that does not translate easily or simply into English. Here is what St. Hilary of Poitiers, mid-300’s AD, a Doctor of the Church, highly respected by Augustine, has to say about it:
“For us, fear of the Lord is part of love; and its expression is the practice of perfect charity: to obey the counsels of God, hold fast to his commandments, trust in his promises.” (Tractatus super Psalmos 127:1-3)
